Description: Portrait of Cornelis Tromp (1629-1691), half-length, turned to the right but facing the left; wearing armour with a mantle draped around him, his right hand akimbo, his left hand holding a stick; in front of him on top of a pedestal are his coat of arms with on each side a canon, in the background a seabattle.Inscribed at bottom: 'Cornelis Tromp L'Admirael van Hollandt ende Westvrieslandt EST IN QEUIS PATRUM VIRTUS...' two columns of four lines each poem by Abrugge. A small correction on the left column, second line: 'Roos [en] Lely' , 'en' added in pen and brown ink.[NL] Antieke prent, portret van admiraal Cornelis Tromp met commandostaf in zijn zij door Hendrik Bary. Op de achtergrond is een zeeslag te zien. Onder het portret zijn wapen, naam en titels en een vers van twee kolommen met elk vier regels in het Nederlands door M. Abrugge. Engraving on paper trimmed within plate mark; total: 405 x 318 mm; state II/2; some rubbing and some dirt, traces of previous mounting on verso; overall in good condition.
