Description: Bust portrait of Johann Hotze (1734-1801), turned to the right, facing the observer.Hotze was an internationally renown Swiss doctor. He specialized in obstetrics, midwifery and psychiatry. Hotze financially supported the work of Johann Kaspar Lavater (1741-1801) Physiognomische Fragmente (1775-1778) and this portrait was included in the French edition from 1786, published in The Hague.Inscribed at bottom: IEAN HOZE, Point d'Honneur sans Vertu. Etching on laid paper, cut close to plate mark; total: 234 x 195 mm; some rubbing, a brownish trace of glue (previous mounting) on the bottom right corner; light foxing on the external margin, some minor brown stains on the plate, otherwise in very good condition.
