Description: Pentecost (Acts 2:1-4); above the Holy Spirit in the form of a dove appears through a gap in clouds surrounded by angels and putti; beneath in a room the Virgin and the apostles look up in awe. After a painting by Vasari made in 1568 for Santa Croce in Florence. The preparatory drawing is in the Pinacoteca Nazionale in Bologna (inv. 1651).Signed and dated on the bottom right: Corneli Cort sc. 1574.The plate was republished in 1602 by Giovanni Orlandi (fl.1590-1640).On verso collectors' marks: Kupferstich Kabinett Berlin (L. 1606, L. 5998), Graf von Leppel (L. 1672).Cut within the plate mark; bottom margin with the address of Lafrery and Orlandi not present.[NL] Pinksteren (Handelingen 2:1-4); boven verschijnt de Heilige Geest in de vorm van een duif door een spleet in de wolken, omringd door engelen en putti; beneden in een kamer kijken de Maagd en de apostelen vol ontzag omhoog.
