Description: Portrait of Louis, Dauphin of Viennois (1729-1765).  Whole length as a youth with a tied wig, lace tie, embroidered jacket, and sash, with the Order of the Golden Fleece. Le Dauphin is pictured standing, with his left hand on his hip and with right arm extended towards an open volume, map, and compass. With columns and drapery behind.With coat of arms and French inscription below, including publisher's address: 'a Paris Chez de N. Larmessin graveur du Roy, rue des Louis will never become king of France as his father, Louis XV survived him.This impression is a later state with an altered face of the prince and modifications on the publication line. The original portrait shows the prince at a much younger age (9 years old), as he was represented in the original painting by Tocque in 1739 [Louvre, inv. 8174].On verso handwritten collector's marks, unidentified.[NL] Lodewijk Ferdinand, dauphin van Frankrijk was de oudste - en tevens de enige zoon die zijn jeugd overleefde - van koning Lodewijk XV van Frankrijk en koningin Maria Leszczy?ska. Hij werd de vader van drie Franse koningen: Lodewijk XVI, Lodewijk XVIII en Karel X. De Orde van het Gulden Vlies is een exclusieve ridderorde. De leden worden vliesridders of toisonisten genoemd. In de katholieke Oostenrijkse tak behoren ze allen tot de Europese adel. De Spaanse tak is al sinds lange tijd een orde van verdienste. Engraving on paper with some margin; total: 523 x 378 mm; some rubbing, otherwise in very good condition.
