Description: Map of the siege of Aire by the Allies under Prince Leopold I of Anhalt-Dessau, besieged from September 11 and taken on November 8, 1710. On the bottom right, an inset showing the siege of Saint-Venant in 1710. Numbered bottom right: 'Tom. II. no. 49.'This map was previously published by Anna van Beek. It served to illustrate how the war of the Spanish Succession (1701-1714) was proceeding.For further information see Carlyn Osborn's contribution: 'Anna Beek and the War of the Spanish Succession.' (2016).This impression, however, comes from a later edition from [Jean] du Mont's: 'Oorlogskundige beschryving van de veldslagen en belegeringen, der drie ... en den Prins van Oranje en Nassau-Vriesland,' from 1729.Signed by Peter van Call II on the bottom left: 'P.v.Cal Fecit'. Large plano, total: 567 x 680 mm; wide margins, central folding crease. Despite some light staining on the bottom external margin, in great condition.
