Description: View of the flooded land as a result of the dike breach at Durgerdam on February 4, 1825. On the right, a seated woman breastfeeds her child, in the middle and on the left several groups of people.Titled below: 'DEN DOORBRAAK ACHTER DURGERDAM.' Signed below: 'J. Claus Jr Getekend / Uitgegeven by J. Numan, Leidsche kruistraat N. 7 te Amsterdam / Proefdruk.' under the title: 'Voorgevallen, in den avond van de 4e Februarij 1825.'The J. of Claus's signature modified into a P with pen and ink. Colored aquatint and etching on paper; cut within plate; total: 215 x 436 mm; side margins frayed and with some tears, smudges at bottom, large part of the sky missing.
