The sitter turns his bust to the left, but gazing at the viewer.Two verses in Italian below: 'PIV TOSTO STAR MAI MARITATO / CHE SEGVITAR AMOR INGRATO' which translates in: 'It's better to stay unmarried than to follow an ungrateful love forever'; signed: 'Joachimus Sand. delineabat ad vivum, / Regnerus A Persyn grati animi ergo amico sculpebat.'On verso collector's mark: Wilhelm Eduard Drugulin (1825-1879) L.2612.Portret van de koopman Sybrand Camaij. In de marge een tweeregelig onderschrift in het Italiaans.
