Description: View on the Singel canal in Amsterdam. On the right the Oude Lutherse kerk, which nowadays belongs to the Universiteit van Amsterdam; at center a bridge leading to the Spui square. In the foreground the frozen canal with people piercing the ice and skating. On the left a boat breaking the ice, lead by men pulling it from the street on the right.Titled at bottom in Dutch and French: 'Winter-gezicht op de Cingel voor de Luthersche Oudekerk te zien tot Amsterdam. / Vue de l' hyver sur le Cingel, devant la Vieille eglise Lutherienne a Amsterdam.' With catalogue number on the bottom left corner: 'Ss N.5.' Hand colored etching and engraving, total: 341 x 450 mm; dirt and smudges, some staining and foxing especially on the left margin; foldings on the bottom corners; traces of previous mounting on verso; overall in good condition.
