Description: Panels in grisailles decorating the triumphal arch on the Buitenhof for the entrance of William III the 5th of February 1691 (Binnenkomst van Willem III in Den Haag). They show William III as a Roman hero. On the left side, he is riding a chariot in a parade with musicians in front of a Rome-looking city; on the right he is on a boat approaching a harbor.Titled below: Zyschilderyen der zeege- en eerepoorten voor het hof / Peintures des bouts de l'arc de triomphe devant la cour Not signed. This impression was not included in G. Bidloo 'Komst van Zijn Majesteit Willem III in Holland...', 1691, or its French translation published in 1692, but rather collected in an album, as the binding holes on the left margin would suggest. The inscription in pencil below indicates that it may come from the first tirage. Etching on paper, with wide margins; plate mark 333 x 446; total: 455 x 600 mm. No folding creases, some smudges on the margins, but in great condition. Landwehr 79; M 2827; v.St 2864; H 168-185.
