Description: Two daughters of King Kekrops, Herse and Agraulos, open the basket that Athena had entrusted to their sister Pandrosos. The child Erichthonius crawls out of it. The child has the tail of a serpent in place of his bottom limbs. This sight drives Herse and Agraulos to madness. Pandrosos looks on in amazement. The print is part of a series with Biblical, mythological, and allegorical representations. This impression is numbered on the bottom right corner: 18.Signed at bottom: G. Lairesse in. / Leon: Schenk exc. / J. Glauber fe. Etching on paper without margins, trimmed on plate mark; total: 275 x 382 mm; some stains, light rubbing and staining along the margins; traces of previous mounting on verso, otherwise in good condition.
