Description: Portrait of Constantijn Huygens (1596-1687), half-length in front of a cloudy sky, turned slightly to left but looking towards the viewer, with long hair, moustache and beard, resting his left hand on a book.Huygens recorded in his diary of 28 January 1632 that Van Dyck made a portrait of him but no work is now known, and there are no portraits of Huygens described in S. Barnes, N. de Poorter, O. Millar and H. Vey, 'Van Dyck: A Complete Catalogue of the Paintings', Yale & London, 2004.Paulus Pontius engraved Anthony van Dyck most evocative known image of Constantijn Huygens (1596-1687), the Dutch poet and composer, secretary to two Princes, and the father of the scientist Christiaan Huygens.
