He soon thereafter dedicated himself to writing children's literature, and successively published the Ami des enfants (12 volumes, 1782-1783), the Ami de l'adolescence (4 volumes, 1784-1785), the Instruction particulière à la connaissance de la nature (1784), Sandford et Merton (7 volumes, 1786-1787), the Petit Grandisson (2 volumes, 1787), and more.
