Description: Jean de La Fontaine is one of the most widely read French poets of the 17th century. Though he never secured the favour of Louis XIV, La Fontaine had many well-wishers close to the throne and among the nobility. He is known above all for his Fables (which provided a model for subsequent fabulists across Europe), but also wrote numerous tales, miscellaneous (including dramatic) works, and small pieces of occasional poetry. Half leather binding, 13.9 x 8.5 cm, signs of wear on spine and boards. Foxing throughout the volume.
