Description: Bound with: “J. van Vondels Hekeldichten, met aentekeningen, Uit ‘s Dichters mont opgeschreven. t’ Amersfoort, By Pieter Braakman, 1707” and “Vertroosting Voor de Onnozele en bedroefde Ingezetenen Van Hollandt, over de doodt van zyn Hoogheit Prins Willem den II.”Inscription of former owner on third front endleaf: Margaretha Koekkebakker. Inscription in Latin on verso. This could be Margareta Maria Koekkebakker born in 1740.With his Palamedes, Vondel intended to criticize the death (or rather political murder) of Oldenbarnevelt. Since this was a dangerous subject, Vondel explored various antique sources to turn into an allegory.
