No inscription in De Pleegzoon.The versatile Jacob van Lennep is one of the few authors of the nineteenth century whose work is still read today. He was tremendously popular in his own time. He first became famous for his historical novels Ferdinand Huyck and De Roos van Dekama. He also wrote plays, poems, historical and linguistic works and was a member of the House of Representatives for several years. He was taken to court by Multatuli for interventions in the manuscript of Max Havelaar.Van Lennep - Dutch literature - novelist - Bilderdijk - Douwes Dekker - Tweede Kamer Bound in red ribbon-embossed cloth, 19 x 12 cm. Vols. I, II and III have broken hinges, vols. IV and V are intact. Signs of wear: some rubbing and small damages, some foxing in vols. I and II.
