Title: Schoolbook, [s.a.], Children's Literature | Kleine Gedichten voor Kinderen door P. C. van Alphen. Derde verbeterde uitgave, met gekleurde plaatjes. Amsterdam, Joh. Guykens, [s.a.], 90 pp.
Description: A collection of small poems for children by Van Alphen (1746 — 1803), whose poetry is characterized by a modern vision of the child based on new pedagogical insights coming from England, France and Germany, which he adapted to the Dutch situation.Van Alphen's poems are instructive not only for children, but also for parents. He viewed the child as a blank sheet that could be taught important virtues such as obedience, modesty, and reverence for its parents and for God. Children should be able to learn through play, and it is the parent who takes on the role of a cautious educator who gently molds the child into a virtuous, disciplined human being without threatening violence or otherwise frightening the child. Van Alphen's poems are still printed today.Education - textbook - schoolbook - leermiddel - children's education - poetry - rhymes - Enlightenment Bound in cloth and marbled paper, 15.1 x 9.5 cm.
