For him, history was about people, especially men of stature and noble character, and historians had the task of writing for people, or rather educating them. On closer inspection, this view was romantic, and Puchinger very consciously positioned himself on the sidelines of the historiographical playing field, at a time when awe or at least a certain captivation for authority figures was no longer taken for granted. Puchinger wanted nothing to do with the skepticism and demythologization that dominated the work of many of his fellow historians. Above all, he wanted bear witness to admiration for the predecessors, from whose legacy we live. Ze was de oudste in een domineesgezin met negen kinderen. Allen kregen een goede scholing. Een broer van haar werd hoogleraar in Leiden - bij hem woonde ze jarenlang in - en een zus was lerares. Zelf koos ze voor het schrijverschap; ze zag dit als een van de weinige manieren om als ‘dame’ geld te verdienen voor het sinds 1854 vaderloze gezin De Goeje. Onder het pseudoniem Agatha schreef ze ruim honderd boeken voor kleuters, jonge meisjes en jongedames. Daarnaast bewerkte en vertaalde ze buitenlands werk en leverde ze veelvuldig bijdragen aan diverse jeugdtijdschriften. Ze was redacteur van het jeugdtijdschrift Voor 't Jonge Volkje en het vrouwentijdschrift Ons Streven. Ze stierf op 6 februari 1893 in Rotterdam. Bound in embossed linen, 18.4 x 14.2 cm.
