Contains map of the island.The original novel was so well received in the literary world, that it had already run through four editions by the end of 1719. It has gone on to become one of the most widely published books in history, so much so that it has become a genre in its own right, called the 'Robinsonade'.Robinson Crusoe continued to inspire Dutch authors until well into the nineteenth century, P.J. Andriessen's being one of them with 'De Hollandsche Robinson Crusoë' (1876). A cover design for the first edition is in the collection of the Rijksmuseum (inv. no.
