Description: Volume 2 of Wandelingen door Nederland by the Dutch minister, teacher, author and draughtsman Jacobus Craandijk (1834-1912). Craandijk is best known as the ‘hiking minister’, and for the descriptions of his wanderings which he bundled in the series Wandelingen door Nederland (1875-1888). His works provide a wealth of information about the Netherlands of he nineteenth century and its history, also including lengthy descriptions of landscapes, towns and landmarks. The series was illustrated by his fiend and artist Piet Schipperus.An autodidact, Schipperus (1840-1929) was awarded with a scholarship by King William III, which enabled him to fully dedicate his time to painting. He became a member of Arti et Amicitiae in 1879. Schipperus’ illustrations for Wandelingen door Nederland were made between 1875 and 1888, when both men travelled through the Netherlands during the summers.Netherlands – landscape – travel – hiking – Craandijk – Schipperus Debossed linen binding, 27.3 x 18.5 cm.
