Title: Rare Pamphlet, 1793, Patriots | Aan de Landlieden wegens de Onderwaterzetting van de Landerijen, Utrecht, Jan Krap, 1 p.
Description: A considerable number of patriotic booksellers and publishers were active in the Netherlands towards the end of the eighteenth century. They resented the establishment and published countless pamphlets and articles (in which they advocated the overthrow of the aristocratic society) to aid in their efforts. Together with Jan de Leeuw, Jan Krap was one of the most radical publishers active at the time.Krap was also responsible for the manuscript of Aan de Landlieden wegens de Onderwaterzetting van de Landerijen, in which the peasants were urged to resist the scheduled inundations when the French armies were to arrive. When the Utrecht publisher Pieter Muntendam was caught publishing the pamphlet, Krap was arrested in Dordrecht and emprisoned. Muntendam claimed to be unaware of any wrongdoing: he had simply done what Krap had required of him. In turn, Krap said not to recall such a thing. Due to a lack of evidence Krap was eventually walked out of prison after a few months, although he was banned from Dordrecht upon his release.Dordrecht - Utrecht - French - Patriots - Pamplet - Protest - Radical publishers Print, 28 x 22.7 cm.
