Description: Rare publication with a treatise on almanacs (verhandeling over den almanak) published by the Dutch society Tot Nut van 't Algemeen. Formerly in the collection of Rijksarchief Noord-Brabant (stamp).The Maatschappij tot Nut van 't Algemeen (in short 't Nut) is a national society with local chapters (departments) that aims to promote the welfare, in the broadest sense, of individuals and of the community. Founded in 1784, the Society is concerned with matters of general interest - such as education, self-development and social discussion - and strives for development with the highest possible amount of cultural content.'t Nut was founded in Edam by a group of six people including Jan Nieuwenhuyzen, a Baptist teacher and preacher from Monnickendam. His son Martinus Nieuwenhuyzen was also among the founders, and was heavily involved in both the drawing up of the plans and their elaboration.
