Description: View of the Loevestein castle.On 18 May 1619, Rombout Hogerbeets and Hugo de Groot were sentenced to life imprisonment at the castle.On the left, the arrival of the prisoners here accompanied by soldiers. In the distance are the cities of Woudrichem and Gorinchem. At the bottom two portraits of the convicted and a second view of Loevestein with a short description of the event, in eight lines of Dutch text.Signed at bottom center: 'C.I. Visscher fecit et excu:' Etching on paper, trimmed to plate, pasted down on light cardboard, possibly for conservation purposes: a restored tear is visible on the top part of the print; total: 226 x 298 mm; state I/2; some light brown stains, though nicely contrasted image.
