Description: Half-length portrait of Gerard Hamel, behind a clothed desk, with his right arm leaning on it, holding gloves in hand. A curtain behind him, with his coat of arms hanging on the right. Inscribed at bottom: 'Illustrissimorum Ordinum / Prouinciae Vultrajectinae Assessor et / Aduocatus GERARDVS HAMEL'. Signed below: 'Sculpsit Crispianus Passeus Junior et ad vivum Delin: 1630'. Gerard Hamel (1556/1557-Utrecht 1633) was counselor (raadsheer) at the Utrecht court (het Hof van Utrecht) and member and lawyer of the Staten van Utrecht. Hij lived at the Janskerkhof. Engraving on paper, trimmed within plate and mounted on another sheet of paper; framing line in pen and black ink; total: 182 x 115 mm; despite some creases below, due to the pasting down of the corners, in very good condition; Hollstein 59, Muller 2154.
