Description: Standing woman wearing a peplos, turned to the left, holding a cup in her right hand and a serpent in her left hand; after an antique statue identified as Circe or a Vestal virgin. Signed and numbered on the ground: FP B / [1]65, FP monogrammed and the B stands for Bergognone. The numbering of the plate is a bit odd as the number 1 appears before the actual number. From 'Segmenta Nobiliarum Signorum et Statuarum', a series of 101 etched plates (frontispiece and 100 illustrations) representing statues from Rome, first published in Rome in 1638, and reprinted five times before the end of the seventeenth century. On verso, on the bottom right corner collector's mark: P in black (stencilled?). Date of publishing 1638. Etching on laid paper; plate mark: 219 x 115 mm, total: 295 x 181 mm; despite the traces of a damp stain affecting the bottom margin and the traces of folding on the top left corner, in good condition.
