Description: Hugo de Groot (Grotius) preparing his escape from Loevestein Castle. In a room he is stepping into a book chest. Standing beside him is his wife Maria van Reigersberg. Left: 'S. Fokke del et fec.'; below: 'Hugo de Groot zig bereidende tot de vlugt uit de Loevesteinsche gevangenis, in 't jaar 1621.'; 'Is. Tirion excudit.' Used in: J. Wagenaar, Vaderlandsche historie, vol. 10, Isaak Tirion, Amsterdam, 1754.
