On the right background the IJ with sailing ships.Van der Gouwen is a little-known engraver whose name appears on the engraved frontispieces and bookplates of editions issued in Amsterdam.Titled on the bottom right: BESCHRYVINGE / DER STAD / AMSTERDAM. Engraving and etching on paper; plate mark: 294 x 173 mm, total: 314 x 203 mm; some tears and light stains on the very external margins, sharp contrast, in good condition.
