Description: Allegory of History writing the major events dictated by the personifications of the four parts of the world, from left to right Europe, Africa, Asia and America. Beyond these figures, on the left a battlefield and on the right, a group of men in Roman clothes gathered around an altar suggesting they are discussing peace terms.Inscribed in French at bottom: L'HISTOIRE paroit occupèe à tracer les principaus / Evenements, arrivés dans les IV Parties du Monde: on voit / dans le lointain d'un coté des Batailles, & de l'autre des / Souverains, qui traietent de la Paix, devant l'Autel de la Concorde Signed and dated on the bottom right: P. Yver fecit 1737.On verso collector's mark (not in Lugt) with date: Erven Verbeek / Dom. Fam. V.Z. / del (?) 1.1.1984. Etching and engraving on paper; plate mark: 145 x 86 mm, total: 238 x 161 mm; in great condition, despite a small stain on the most external margin, to the right.
