Description: From a set of 100 numbered engraved prints including the title-print, all printed in red or reddish brown some with 2 different shades to make a duotone. Possibly from the first edition of an attractive and entertaining series of caricature prints, showing fashions and foibles among society folk of Augsburg.The caricatures were conceived, painted and drawn by the lawyer, artist, illustrator and portraitist Joseph Franz von Göz (1754-1815), credited with the creation of the first graphic novel (Leonardo und Blandine, 1783). Plate 27 is titled: 'Mr. Y-- Son Maitre' represents a standing man holding a stick in his right hand. Dressed in eighteenth-century attire, with his left hand in a pocket. Signed below: 'J.f.De Göz del / Brichet Sculp', with address below: 'Se vend a' Augsb. dans le Neg. comun del'Acad...'Numbered above on the right. Etching and engraving on laid paper with broad margins; platemark: 176 x 134 mm, total: 385 x 279 mm; printed á la poupée with two different shades of red ink; damp stain on the top right corner, smudges and dirt due to handling, some dirt also on the plate but minor.
