Reinier Vinkeles (1741-1816), after Georg van der Mijn (1723/28-1763) - [Portrait print, etching/ets] Portrait of Cornelis Ploos van Amstel, published 1765.

Title: [Portrait print, etching/ets] Portrait of Cornelis Ploos van Amstel, published 1765.
Description: Intriguing etching with the portrait of C. Ploos van Amstel. The original portrait was painted by van der Mijn and is now at the Mauritshuis, inv. 729.Inscribed on the right side of the canvas: Cornelis Ploos van Amstel, Geboren Anno 1726, den 4 January. All around the portrait are scattered tools that the artist employed regularly. This impression is very interesting because it bears handwritten inscriptions from the same period. At the bottom: Van der Mijn pinx 1748 / R. Vinkeles f. 1765 in pen and brown ink. On verso, in pen and black ink: Bildnis des Cornelis Ploos van Amstel. / F.A.Boerner. in pencil, G. 1079.According to Laurentius/Niemeijer 1980-81, nr. 141 p. 39, the original plate was etched by J. van der Schley. At his death, in 1779, the plate came in the hands of Vinkeles who modified it slightly. Nevertheless, this impression bears dates that evidence otherwise. Therefore, it may well be that Vinkeles himself etched the plate directly. Etching on paper with wide margins with inscriptions in pen and ink, brown in the front, black on verso; in passepartout. Plate mark: 101 x 137 mm, total: 178 x 221 mm. Muller 4239c, Laurentius/Miemeijer 1981, p. 39, nr. 141. In outstanding condition.
