Description: Portrait of Joan van Beverwyck, sitting at a table, in front of Apollo. The scientist has an open book in front of himself. Other elements in the room point to the activity of Bewerwyck, like the flayed body on the left, the doctor taking blookd from the patient in the background and the skeleton on the right.Frontispiece to the edition of 1672 of all his works, with the address of the publisher.In the upper section is Adam surrounded by animals. In the lower part a stag (hert) is being hit.Titled on the side of the tablecloth: 'ALLE DE WERCKEN. / ZO IN DE / MEDICYNE als CHIRURGIE / VAN DE HEER / IOAN VAN BEVERWYCK / Out-Schepen der Stadt Dordrecht.'Signed on the bottom right and left: 'C. de pas Inu. / C.V.D. / sculpsit'.[NL] Geneesheer Johan van Beverwijk bestudeert boeken en zit met Apollo aan tafel in interieur met op de wand voorstelling van medische ingreep: een aderlating. In cartouche boven Adam in het paradijs en cartouche onder hertenjacht geflankeerd door twee zwanen met gespreide vleugels. Engraving on paper, with some margins; plate mark: 208 x 165 mm, total: 234 x 176 mm; traces of foldings, right margin damaged paper, yet plate in very good condition.
