Description: View of the Dutch city of Purmerend. Accompanied by the Latin motto 'Praestat Ociari Quam Nihil Agere', meaning 'It is better to rest than to conduct useless exersice'. Further description in Latin and German on the bottom of the print. The motto is pictured in front of the city by a boy playing with a hoop. ca. 1640.Print number E48 originates from 'Daniel Meisner, Sciographia Cosmica (...), Nürnberg, P. Fürst, 1638-1642'.After Meisner's Thesaurus Philo-politicus (...), 1623-1632. This series of 830 emblematic prints contained eighty prints concerning Dutch and Belgian cities.(Meissner) Overall size: 14,4 x 18,1 cm; plate size: 9,6 x 14,3 cm. Very good state. Handlaid paper with watermark.
