Description: Hand coloured illustration of the Dutch city of Deventer (Gelderland). Accompanied by the German motto 'Das Ja wort macht den Kauff', meaning 'The yes word makes the purchase'. Further description in Latin and German on the bottom of the print. The motto is pictured in front of the city by a nobleman asking a woman for her hand. ca. 1640.Print number E39 originates from 'Daniel Meisner, Sciographia Cosmica (...), Nürnberg, P. Fürst, 1638-1642'.After Meisner's Thesaurus Philo-politicus (...), 1623-1632. This series of 830 emblematic prints contained eighty prints concerning Dutch and Belgian cities.(Meissner) Overall size: 14,7 x 19,2 cm; plate size: 9,4 x 14,7 cm. Very good state. Reinforced above a fold in the upper corners. Handlaid paper.
