Description: Hand coloured illustration of the Dutch city of Leeuwarden. Accompanied by the German motto 'Fried un Gerechtigkeit kussen sich', meaning 'Peace and Justice kissing each other'. Further description in Latin and German on the bottom of the print. The motto is pictured above the city by two women embracing. One woman holds a scale with swords (Justice). The other holds a palm leaf (Peace). ca. 1640.Print number B46 originates from 'Daniel Meisner, Sciographia Cosmica (...), Nürnberg, P. Fürst, 1638-1642'.After Meisner's Thesaurus Philo-politicus (...), 1623-1632. This series of 830 emblematic prints contained eighty prints concerning Dutch and Belgian cities.(Meissner) Overall size: 14,7 x 19,2 cm; plate size: 9,5 x 14,5 cm. Very good state. Reinforced in the upper margin on the verso. Handlaid paper with watermark.
