Description: Hand coloured copperplate engraving of the Dutch city of Utrecht, as seen from above. With explanatory title (TRAJECTUM) in a cartouche on the middle top of the plate. The crest of Holland on the top left and the city crest of Utrecht on the top right. ca. 1582. This print is copied after Braun and Hogenberg (1581).This print originates from 'Lodovico Guicciardini, Descrittione di tutti i Paesi bassi (...), Antwerpen, Plantijn, 1582'. This was an influential account of the history and the arts of the Low Countries, accompanied by city maps by various leading engravers. Deys 2001. Overall size: 25 x 33,5 cm; plate size: 24 x 32,2 cm. Good state. Some age related discolouration. Pasted to a piece of contemporary paper. Roughly coloured. Handlaid paper with a fold in the middle (tear in the original fold).
