Author: Title: [Optica print, illumination] Vue de la Place de Bourgogne (Bordeaux city).
Description: ca. 1750-1800 241 x 433 mm Etching/engraving/watercolour (on the back) Vue de la Place de Bourgogne sur le Port de la Ville de Bourdeaux Pasted onto cardboard. The sides are painted black (for better illumination). Some stains and smudges are visible. OPT085 An illuminated optical view of the Place de Bourgogne, as seen from the water. In the back the large arch is depicted. The square in front of it is busy with merchants and residents. The windows and light sources of the buildings are perforated (dots and cut outs). At the back of the print we see that the holes used to be covered with hand coloured see-through paper. This gives the illusion of lights when the print is held in front of a light source. The space seen through the arch is cut out. A half-see through picture, of a landscape in the distance, is inserted. Title is pasted to the back of the print. Remains of colour-illumination.
