Author: Frederik Bloemaert (1614/17–1690) after Abraham Bloemaert (1566-1651) Title: [Antique print, engraving and etching] A female peasant resting on a rock, published ca. 1682.
Description: A peasant resting on a rock. Numbered: '89' on the bottom left.As the watermark suggests [a crowned escutcheon charged with a Strasbourg Lily], this impression comes from one of the first editions by Nicolaus Visscher from around 1682.The engraving was realized by Frederik Bloemaert after the drawing of Abraham, his father, and included in the fifth part (prints numbered from 81 to 100) of the collection Artis Apellae (...). The book was intended as a model book for draughtsmen as it presented figure compositions and studies of the human body. The varied printing techniques employed in the publication (colored woodcuts, etching, engraving etc...) depend on the technical complexity of the original compositions by Abraham. Engraving and etching on paper, with some margin; platemark: 211 x 173, total: 217 x 182 mm; in passepartout; Hollstein 94-213.
