Description: Oval portrait of the sculptor Hendrik Noteman (1657-1734). Portrayed until his shoulders, looking left and turned to left, holding a chisel; a sculpted head seen in the background, to right. This mezzotint has been reworked with wash. Titled on the bottom:'HENDRIK NOTEMAN.' lettering reported above:'A de Gelder pinx: J. Gole fecit'.[NL] Hendrik Noteman was een Nederlands beeldhouwer en houtsnijder. Noteman, gedoopt als Henrik, was de zoon van Nicolaas Noteman en Neeltje Klaesdochter, en afkomstig uit een voornaam burgergeslacht. De beeldhouwer en houtsnijder Hendrik Noteman. In zijn hand heeft hij een beitel, naast hem is een gebeeldhouwd hoofd te zien. Mezzotint on paper pasted on thicker paper; trimmed within platemark, line below with reference to the makers has been cut off and partially and roughly pasted above the title on the left.
