Reynard the fox is the cunning lead character of these stories. He desperately tries to trick his opponents, who sometimes take revenge on him. The core stories were written during the middle ages by several authors. They can be interpreted as parodies on courtly love, as well as satire on political and religious institutions. In the illustrations by Christian Dotteler the human features of the animals are wonderfully emphasized by their poses and costumes. His work gives a modern twist to an old classic. B2343
