André de Ridder (1888 - 1961) was a Belgian poet and art critic who was an important figure in the early twentieth century art scene. He was the founder of the magazine and gallery Sélection in which he promoted expressionist painting. This way he got into contact with Jean de Bosschère (1878 - 1953) who was a Belgian poet, painter, illustrator and art critic. Their collaboration for Kerstvertellingen uit Vlaanderen shows a beautiful synergy between art and word. The illustrations by Bosschère give a good idea of his versatility and show a new expressionistic way of illustration. B2319
