The story is about Deianeira, the wife of Herakles, who is unable to handle the fact that her husband came home with a mistress from his wanderings. She remembers a charm to make him fall in love with her again, but the product she uses is in reality an evil poison that makes Heracles mad: he jumps into a lake of fire to put an end to all of his sufferings. Consumed by despair and remorse Deianeira also commits suicide. The translation is dedicated to ‘Jakob Hinlopen Vermaes, out bewintheere der Groenlantsche Maetschappye.’ZKL0082
