The play is dedicated to the Mayors of Amsterdam: Lambert Reins, Cornelis van Plooswyck, Cornelis de Vlaming van Outshoren and Gilis Valkenier.Joost van den Vondel (1587 – 1679) was a Dutch poet and play writer.
