He wrote several books, the most important Anthologia Greaca. He was a member of Hollandse Maatschappij der Wetenschappen (KHWM) from 1776, Maatschappij der Nederlandsche Letterkunde from 1780, member of Zeeuwsch Genootschap der Wetenschappen from 1793 and member of the Maatschappij ter bevordering van de landbouw. In 1808 Louis Bonaparte (Lodewijk Napoleon) asked him to be a member of the committee for the formation of the Koninklijk Instituut along with Martinus van Marum, Jean Henri van Swinden and Martinus Stuart. Jeronimo de Bosch is de oom van Jeronimo de Vries.Rutger Jan Schimmelpenninck (1761-1825) was raadspensionaris, council, lawyer, politician, patriot. In 1805 Napoleon Bonaparte appointed him as council pensionary of the Batavian Republic (1795-1806). From December 1800, Schimmelpenninck was sent to Amiens, to take part in the Franco-English peace negotiations as ambassador cq. advisor.
