Grey Owl was born as Archibald Stansfeld Belaney, the son of an aristocrat, in Hastings, England. He emigrated to Canada in 1906 to live among the Ojibway native peole in northern Ontario. He was one of the first Canadian conservationists, also a canoeist, a packer, a guide, a fur trapper, a naturalist and a storyteller.
