Ca. 21,5 x 13 cm.Although marked as Volume I, there is no more published; the vignet on the frontcover: "Royal Engineers Library" and "UBIQUE". Corners a little bumped; good copy. Contains various papers including Experiments on Gunpowder, Experiments made with Cannon and some attempts to improve Field Artillery, Experiments on Production of Air from Water, Intensities of Light emitted by Luminous Bodies, Experiments on Coloured Shadows, Conjectures respecting the Principles of the Harmony of Colours, Enquiry concerning Chemical Properties attributed to Light, etc. Thompson was well known for his technological innovation, and he studied gunpowder and illumination throughout his life.
