In his time, Yperman was a pioneer and innovator when it comes to surgery and medicine. After his medical stdies, perhaps in Paris, Yperman practiced the profession of surgeon in Ypres. There he worked, among other things, in the service of the city in the so-called Belle Hospital. Archivally, his trace disappears in Ypres around 1330.
