Numbers 271-276 omitted in paging. Includes index. Text is continuous despite pagination. Contemporary armorial calf, repaired. George Monck, 1st Duke of Albemarle's copy, with his 'Knight of the Garter' supralibros. With a frontispiece, engraved title-page and 16 plates engraved by Wencelaus Hollar after Johan Danckerts, Francis Barlow and Robert Streater; frontispiece portrait engraved by Pierre Lombart. Most of the plates have old library stamps to the margins of the plates, not affecting the images. Each plate is accompanied by a leaf of descriptive letterpress in Latin verse (translated in the text), not included in the paging. The added illustrated engraved title-page is also accompanied by single leaves of Latin (not included in the collation) and English descriptive letterpress; these leaves are bound in various orders in surviving copies. This copy lacks the portrait and two plates. ESTC R21081; Wing J1280; Pforzheimer 568. A cutting from an old bookseller's catalogue refers to this book as the 'Duke of Buccleuch's copy.' Very Good.
