Second edition, improved, with nine plates (all present), and several wood cuts in text. xiv + 325pp. Ex-academic library - MIT Dept. of Civil Engineering stamp on title page, with Smithsonian stamp on reverse; serial stamped on final blank (unclear which draughty house of education was responsible for the binding). Two marks on spine.Taped repair to upper edge of p.iii (dedication page), with a small nick further down; chip an inch or two deep from upper edge of p.v (advertisement); two nicks at fore-edge of p. vii (preface) - all text remains clear. Pages in main body are in very good condition for age. Title continues: 'With Illustrations Experimental, Scientific, and Practical, to which are added, Remarks on the Nature of Heat and Light; and Various Tables Useful in the Application of Heat'. TS.
