Fully bound in near-contemporary red half calf leather, with gilt decorated and gilt letter spines with 5 raised bands and marbled page block. Includes 92 steel engraved portraits across the 5 volumes. Volume 2 has been rebacked with original spine laid down. Small piece of spine side missing at foot of volume 3. Small tears to side edges of last 2 pages of volume 4. All other 4 volumes have original marbled endpapers and crested bookplate from John Harold Fawcett to front pastedowns, plus signature of another previous owner to title pages. Boards are rubbed at edges and lightly marked both front and rear with some shelfwear and small nicks. Some light foxing to internal pages, nothing excessive. Spines are all tight and text is clear throughout. AD. Very Good.
