Title: Recipes from No. 10
Description: London, Collins. 1958, First Edition. Hardcover. Used, Hardcover, first edition, in very good condition. Original dust jacket in good condition. When Landemare offered her services to the Churchills in 1940 she was one of the most sought after and well known cooks in Britain. She worked tirelessly throughout the war, often only leaving the kitchen after midnight and then returning hours later to start cooking breakfast. On VE night, she was told by Churchill that he could not have managed through the war without her. In 1958, Landemare published Recipes from No. 10: Some Practical Recipes for Discerning Cooks, which included a foreword by Clementine Churchill, who says she encouraged Landamare to write the book. It sold-out upon publication and became a collector's item. This is a genuine, scarce, first edition because has publication year on the title page and no review to the inside jacket flap. The jacket is edgeworn, with a couple of 3cm tears to edges and spine foot. Also lightly tanned with a mark to the spine. Boards are in excellent condition, endpapers are foxed, crease to bottom of page 9. All other pages excellent, text is clear and illustrations by Selma Nankivell are crisp. Photographs available upon request. AD. Very Good/Good.
