Although Paul Demeny (1844-1918) has been completely forgotten as a poet, he will always be remembered as the person to whom Rimbaud gave his Cahier de Douai, a handwritten cahier with 22 poems, in the autumn of 1870, and of course as the addressee of the Lettre du Voyant of May 15, 1871! The recipient of the book about Victor Hugo was George Fredrik van Duijl (1856-1907), a businessman from Amsterdam, an admirer and connoisseur of the work of Hugo, member of the Amsterdam literary society Flanor and, moreover, a man who corresponded with Tolstoy!
